Happy International Women's Day!!! Where to begin?? Lots of activities to weigh in on. First of all, I would like to acknowledge our female elected officials who stand up and play defense everyday to further the greater community agenda. They’ve not had it easy as they struggle through debates involving housing, health and human rights but managed to win some tough battles...

Words from our NWPC NYC President

Dear Friends:

GM, I have just returned from one of the most incredible experiences of my life - the 2016 Democratic National Convention.  I experienced it from many sides and have come away with a fuller perspective of today's world.  I went, not to be partisan but to witness history in the making and to be in the crescendo of change where Women are finally being recognized for their contributions.

This is soooo much bigger than Hillary Clinton!  By default, she is the "face" and "name" of this de facto evolution.  I spent time with the protestors (and witnessed first hand that "police" situation), in the convention hall and at the Wells Fargo Center - at each venue there are important takeaways indicative of our reality and the human spirit.  All of it however is a display of unbridled passion that requires a leadership quotient to fine tune the results.

It begs pragmatic questions that require honest, simple and real answers.  Our differences are articulated by denial vs. acceptance.  Our Society is in need real solutions and upgrades in universal acceptance and quality of life.  One of the great things about America is that we are a country of opportunity and change.  This statement is evidenced and validated by history.

It is time to put aside the petty differences and unite because like it or not, the divine order and time knows the solution.  The rest of us will know in about 100 days or so.

Below is a remarkable video my friend Liz Abzug sent me.  It tells the truth and is a beautiful tribute to our foremothers, genealogy and strength of our struggles.  Please watch - the video alone can spur a lifetime of conversation.  Whether you like it or not please share (via your social media) it as it is an ode to joy for many.   If the link does not work please search for it on You Tube via the above subject line description.

Some of the great things about our species is our thumb, intelligence, compassion and that we were created in the image of God.  It's time to throw off the shackles, have faith and start to trust each other.  The decision this intersection forces is more comprehensive than campaign spin.  For women, people of color, the LGBTQ community and individuals who thrive from the ability to express their inalienable rights - I am speaking to you!  You can no longer be a spectator as we are fighting for respect, relevance, a decent quality of life and to acknowledge/embrace the power of the "right" to vote.  Please encourage everyone you know to vote this November - we must NEVER give up and always keep going forward!  Thank you for reading this commentary, your feedback is welcome.

Sincerely,

Sharon
